Environmental Monitoring Services

C & C Technologies performs oceanographic environmental monitoring services along the Brazilian coast, with the primary client being Petrobras S.A.

Water samples, sediment, plankton and fish are gathered using equipment such as Box-corer, Van-veen, Multinet, CTD and ADCP for the characterization of the coastal and oceanic areas and providing support to the customer in the process of acquiring environmental licensing for offshore production, drilling, and/or construction.

The work teams consist of oceanographers, biologists, chemists and professionals with extensive experience in offshore deck operations.

Campaigns

The campaigns include many kinds of samples. They occur in the vicinity of platforms at various sampling points. The collection parameters are determined by the client and the responsible environmental agency. Campaign types include the following:

  • Hydrobiology Campaign (collection of water and plankton samples at various depths)
  • Sediment Campaign (collection of sediment for chemical and biotic analysis)
  • Fisheries Campaign (collection of fish)
  • Physical Campaign (collection of physical oceanographic data)

Pre-Campaign Meetings

These meetings are attended by the client the manager and the environmental coordinator from C & C and the laboratory representative. Discussed in these meetings are the following:

  • The work area (platform, drill areas, pipelines)
  • The type of campaign (sediment, Hydrobiology, physical or fishing)
  • How many sampling stations and depths
  • Station Coordinates
  • Methodologies
  • Destination and conditioning of samples

Science Crew

The team is responsible for all of the technical work on board. They launch and recover the equipment, collect the samples, analyze some of the samples on site and create spreadsheets and reports.

Navigation

Responsible for the vessel positioning at the collection point, identification of water masses, identification of the sample’s depth and the operation of the following: CTD, ADCP, CURRENT METER and MULTINET.

Laboratory

The dissolved oxygen tests, water filtration for chlorophyll and particulate matter analysis are performed in the laboratory on board. The turbidity and pH from the water samples are also determined in the laboratory after the collection of each.

Demobilization

C & C is responsible for the transport of the samples, conditioning and delivery to specialized laboratories. This transport is done for several laboratories in Brazil.

Final Report

A final report, assembled by the coordination of the monitoring project, is produced by the site supervisors. This report contains all campaign information, the daily activities, photos and data profiling. It is delivered to the client within seven days after of the end of the campaign.
